East Lothian Courier: Helen and Duncan Morgan celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary at Longniddry Inn

Helen and Duncan’s love story began at the age of 17, when they met at Burma Ballroom, Kirkcaldy.

Duncan said: “I knew straight away that she was the one for me – it just felt right even though we were young.

“We got married at Innerleven Church in Methil a few years later, on October 6, 1962, and we’ve been married ever since. It was after that that we moved out to East Lothian, when I got a job at the power station.

“My wife had our youngest daughter, Alison, about a year later, so she was brought up in East Lothian.”

The couple recently celebrated 60 years of marriage at The Longniddry Inn.

Duncan said: “It was great to be with family and with my wife, it was a really fantastic day for us all.”

As for the secret to a long and happy marriage – Duncan claimed there was no particular secret at all.

He said: “We’ve always both gotten along very well. It’s a bit of a give-and-take relationship where we try never to argue and always compromise if we disagree.

“I wouldn’t say there’s one thing in particular that is key; we just love each other, which is what’s most important.”
