DUNBAR Community Pétanque raised £1,650 for RNLI Dunbar at a recent fundraising event.

The fundraising day, at Lauderdale Park, saw huge numbers turn out to play the sport to help raise funds for the lifeboats.

Stuart McCombie started Dunbar Community Pétanque in April this year and arranged the event to raise money for what was his father’s chosen charity when he was growing up.

He had hoped the day would generate about £500 but was blown away by the support shown by the community.

Stuart said: “I couldn’t believe how much we ended up raising. I had £500 in my head as a target but, when we were tallying up the figures at the end of the night, we realised that we might have to rethink that number.

“It was an amazing day. The weather wasn’t as good as I hoped, but the support from people exceeded anything I had expected.”

The fundraiser included a raffle, with prizes donated by businesses on Dunbar High Street.

Stuart said: “I couldn’t be more grateful to the local businesses who got involved with the fundraiser, without their help we would never have raised so much.”

A spokesman for Dunbar Lifeboat Station said: “We want to thank club founder Stuart McCombie and the other members for their incredible support and to all the people and businesses who donated and took part.”
