JOSH Taylor’s long-awaited world title rematch with Jack Catterall looks set to take place in February.

Neither boxer has stepped into the ring since the first bout between the two at the end of February this year.

Taylor, who has split from trainer Ben Davison and is now working with Joe McNally, retained his four world titles on points after a split decision, which was heavily debated afterwards.

The three judges scored the fight, which took place at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro, 114-111, 113-112 and 112-113 in favour of Taylor.

Now, it looks like the two men will step into the ring to face each other again almost 12 months on.

Promoter Ben Shalom said he expected to make an announcement about the date of the fight within the next week or so.

However, not all four of the belts will be on the line this time round.

Taylor, of Prestonpans, has already vacated the WBC, IBF and WBA titles, with the latter now held by the unbeaten Alberto Puello.

Only the WBO belt, which Taylor won in May last year with victory over Jose Carlos Ramirez, when he made history in unifying the division, will be up for grabs.

It remains to be seen where the rematch will take place, with suggestions it could once again be held in Glasgow.

The loss to Taylor is the only blemish on Catterall’s record having won the previous 26 bouts.
