SCHOOLCHILDREN and council staff in East Lothian are likely to get an extra day off following the death of Her Majesty The Queen.
A national bank holiday has been declared for Monday (September 19) when the Queen’s funeral takes place.
East Lothian Council has confirmed it will be observing this date as a national bank holiday - but Monday is already a local public holiday in East Lothian, which means, for instance, schools would have been closed regardless.
Discussions are now taking place on re-arranging the public holiday for a future date: most likely Monday, October 24.
School pupils were due to be off on this date (October 24) as it is a school staff in-service day; however, the in-service day is set to be moved to Tuesday, October 25 - meaning schools will be closed to pupils on October 24 and 25.
East Lothian Council's cabinet is likely to approve these changes at its meeting on September 27.
The local public holiday this Friday (September 16) goes ahead as normal.
