A TRANENT bowler has become the third member of her family to win a club championship in the same year.

Susan Cockburn, 40, claimed the ladies’ club championship crown at Macmerry Bowling Club at the end of last month, her first in 32 years of playing the sport.

Her success came after her parents George and Mags Thomson both enjoyed club championship victories at Castlepark Bowling Club in Prestonpans the previous weekend to round off a memorable treble for the family.

Susan was elated to have finally taken her maiden title but said that doing so this year made it even more special.

She said: “It was amazing, something I’ve always wanted to do.

“It doesn’t feel real, I’ve been bowling since I was eight years old.

“I was determined this time as I turned 40 in July and thought: ‘This is it, I’m winning it this year.’”

Susan, of Gavin’s Lee, would go on to post a 21-14 victory in the final to complete the family’s treble – something which she admitted had never seemed possible.

She said: “It is something I never thought would ever happen.

“To go to a presentation and lift the same trophy as them [at different clubs] feels very special.

“I’m still on cloud nine.”
