THE Met Office have issued a yellow 'be aware' weather warning for East Lothian as heavy downpours are forecast for tomorrow morning (Tuesday).

The weather warning is in place from midnight until 10am, with residents encouraged to take care when travelling and allow for potential disruption.

The Met Office warned the public that there would be a small chance that homes and business could become flooded, with fast-flowing or deep floodwater causing a risk to life.

Residents are also to be aware that localised flooding could cause the cancellation of public transport services and to plan ahead.

Additionally, spray and surface water on the roads could lead to difficult driving conditions and road closures, and there was a small possibility some smaller communities might become cut off by flooded roads.

Residents should also be aware that power cuts are possible, as well as the loss of other services caused by the excess rain, the Met Office added.

A Met Office spokesperson said: "Further spells of rain, heavy at times, are expected during Tuesday early hours and morning.

"A further 20-30mm rain could fall in some places and isolated rumbles of thunder are possible.

"This rain will start to become lighter and patchier during Tuesday morning before finally easing later on Tuesday."
