THERE was an unusual sight at Cockenzie Harbour on Saturday when a van fell into the water.
Police were made aware of the incident at about 6.40am on Saturday, when residents were shocked to find the van part-submerged in the water next to fishing boats.
The van has now been recovered but Police Scotland said that enquiries remained ongoing.
It was suggested on social media that the incident might not have been accidental, with claims that the keys to the vehicle were taken while the owner was out fishing and the van was then allegedly crashed into a post and left in the water.
The Courier has approached Police Scotland to confirm these claims.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were made aware of a van in the water at Cockenzie Harbour around 6.40am on Saturday, August 13.
"The van has been recovered from the water and enquiries are ongoing."
