A GALA that was due to celebrate its 25th anniversary last year will finally mark the occasion on Saturday.

Civic celebrations throughout the county were sidelined in the last two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Many have now returned to the social calendar, with the Nungate Gala getting ready to toast its silver anniversary this weekend.

Liz McDougall, chairwoman of the Nungate Gala, was delighted that the event was returning for the first time since 2019.

She said: “It is our identity and we are very proud of our heritage in the Nungate.

“I know there have been a few people who have said ‘why not

combine with the Haddington Festival?’ but that will never happen

because the Nungate stands on its own.”

Fittingly, the gala is adopting a silver theme to mark the historic milestone.

Nungate Gala Queen Winter Lenk will be crowned at 12.30pm at Whittingehame Drive, with plenty of entertainment promised throughout the afternoon.

Inflatables will be in place, as well as favourites including hook-a-duck and live music.

A disco will also take place in the Nungate and Haddington Community Hall from 7pm.

Tickets are available from gala committee members.

The gala court is: fairies – Robin Kennedy, Mia Davidson and Christine Park; page boys – Johan Elgin, Cole Moran and Noah McGee; flower girls – Aleigha Burnett, Eilidh Robb, Ellie Walmsley and Maia Bathgate; heralds – Blaze Lenk and Connor Smyth; consort – Alfie McGee; maids of honour – Annie Hutchinson and Skye Kennedy; queen – Winter Lenk.
