HUNDREDS of schoolchildren were asked to pick their favourite design for a new play park.

More than 700 youngsters from schools throughout Musselburgh were given the chance to have their say on plans for a play area in Lewisvale Park.

Proposals from East Lothian Council are now being weighed up by the local authority’s planning department.

A spokeswoman for the council confirmed that more than £100,000 had been set aside for the project.

She said: “We asked three of our framework play companies for designs to this value.

“711 children from schools in Musselburgh took part in the voting process.

“The winning design was Proludic, with 452 votes.”

Drawings included with the planning application show a woodchipped area, with equipment including swings and a wheelchair-accessible roundabout.

The council spokeswoman added: “The current delivery times are 10-12 weeks from date of order, so we’re looking at November at the earliest for work to start, pending planning approval.”
