IRENE Ogilvie has been appointed the new president of Rotary Haddington.

The group, which currently meets in the Waterside Bistro, is one of thousands across the world.

Irene takes over the reins from Neil Forbes and said: “As one of the newer members of Rotary Haddington, I am honoured to be president for 2022-23.

“In these unsettled times, the community needs are greater than ever, but we will adapt the way we work.

“My hope, therefore, is that we will have a much less formal but equally enjoyable year ahead supporting the community.”

Paul Percy Harris, who founded Rotary International, was an attorney in Chicago.

He founded the club that became the global humanitarian organisation in 1905.

Rotary International now has 1.2 million members worldwide, with clubs all over the world volunteering their time, working with local communities and funding projects in their localities and further afield.
