NORTH Berwick welcomed the return of the Calder and Crawford Cups after a two-year break due to Covid-19.
The competitions, organised by North Berwick Community Council (NBCC), returned to East Links putting green.
The Calder Cup has been a North Berwick tradition for a century and the town was finally able to celebrate the competition’s centenary edition after the upheaval caused by the pandemic.
The action got under way last Tuesday, when Gareth Pugh and Bob Macnair led the qualifying with a score of 86.
The final of the Calder Cup was held last Thursday evening, with two local residents – Gareth Pugh and Gary Queen – vying for the title. Gareth won on the 19th hole.
Flo Kirkpatrick, from Peebles, claimed the under-14s’ Crawford Cup.
Judy Lockhart-Hunter, chairperson of NBCC, presented the prizes to the winners.
Kathryn Smith, secretary of NBCC, said: “The sun shone, the green was challenging and everyone seemed to enjoy the competition, though the entry to both competitions was extremely disappointing. This is something we will be addressing well in advance of next year’s competition.”
