A TRANENT driver has been banned from the road after he twice overtook cyclists without leaving enough distance between them and his vehicle.

Ryan Gordon drove his vehicle without due care and attention when overtaking cyclist Robin Wallace at the A198 near to the Bankton Roundabout, Prestonpans, on October 4, 2020.

He also committed the same offence when passing three cyclists on Gosford Road in Port Seton on February 27 last year.

On that occasion, the group of cyclists were forced to brake sharply, causing one of the cyclists, Stuart McMillan, to collide with the wing mirror of Gordon’s vehicle.

Gordon, of Kennedy Crescent, then left the scene and failed to report the incident to the police within the required 24 hours.

Sheriff Kenneth McGowan was told that 24-year-old Gordon did not notice the cyclist colliding with his vehicle’s mirror, leading him to drive off.

Following a short deliberation, Sheriff McGowan fined Gordon a total of £670 over the three charges and issued him with a six-month driving ban.

Gordon admitted driving without due care and attention and failing to provide adequate passing distance when overtaking cyclists on October 4, 2020, and February 27 last year.

He also pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to notify police of a collision with a cyclist in Port Seton on February 27 last year.
