A COMMUNITY consultation on potential locations for pump tracks throughout East Lothian closes on Sunday.

East Lothian Council asked members of the public for their views on potential sites in Haddington, Prestonpans and Tranent.

Already, Dunbar and Ormiston are home to pump tracks, with community groups in Musselburgh and North Berwick progressing plans for facilities in those towns.

Pump tracks are popular with skateboarders, off-road bikes and scooters, and consist of a rolling track on hills and bends.

Three sites were identified in Haddington: beside the skate park off Whittingehame Drive; to the south of Whittingehame Drive; and on land beside Wellside/A6093.

Four locations were considered in Prestonpans: Preston Crescent; Cemetery Park; and Cuthill Park, as well as Meadowmill, which was considered as a potential location for both Prestonpans and Tranent.

Finally, four other locations were considered for Tranent: Polson Park; Meetinghouse Drive; beside the 2G pitches opposite Ross High School; and at the junction of Ormiston Road and Muirpark Road.

A spokeswoman for East Lothian Council explained what would happen after the consultation closed.

She said: “All feedback provided will be reviewed to help inform the preferred location, which will then be the subject of a formal planning application.

“The results of the consultation will be publicly shared as part of the planning process.

“While £250,000 has been set aside in the council’s budget towards the delivery of pump tracks in East Lothian, we will also look to secure external funding sources to support the development of these exciting facilities in the towns identified in the consultation.

“We would encourage anyone who has not already done so to contribute to the consultation before it closes on July 31.”
