TWO East Lothian Royal Scots veterans have attended First and Second World War memorial services in France.

The first service was where the Royal Scots commemorated a valiant stand with a last muster that should have been staged in May 2020 but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This time, 30 Royal Scots, including Tom Logan and Jamie Colquhoun, attended the 82nd Commemorative event in Le Paradis, where the 1st Battalion the Royal Scots were reduced in strength as they prepared for their last Stand at Le Paradis, 30 miles from Dunkirk.

Their orders were to “stand and fight to the last man” and it played a pivotal role in enabling the withdrawal of 337,000 allied forces and equipment from the beaches of Dunkirk.

Then, later in June, they attended the 106th anniversary service of remembrance in the village of Contalmaison. The service was to commemorate the first day of the Battle of the Somme, which took place on July 1, 1916.
