A NEW band is set to be created in Musselburgh.

Launched by the locally based Mansfield School of Music, The Band Project will run from Monday to next Friday (July 29).

Budding musicians will learn music, record the audio and compile a music video at the end of the initiative, which will take place at the school at Eskside East from 9am to 2pm.

Band members will walk away with an MP3 and video of their song, along with a limited edition ‘The Band Project’ t-shirt.

The tutors are Luke Hunter, Caitlin McGillivray – whose dad Roy started the Mansfield School of Music in 1990 – and Liam Tucker.

Luke started playing the guitar at an early age, being brought up in a house with a broad and varying record collection, spurring his love for the instrument. In 2017, he gained his Grade 8 Electric Guitar and Grade 7 Piano. He went on to study music at the University of Edinburgh, from which he has just graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Hons) degree. He has been teaching at Mansfield School of Music for three years, tutoring students on guitar, piano and bass.

Luke regularly performs in venues across East Lothian and Edinburgh. He also regularly plays in musical theatre pit bands such as recent productions of Legally Blonde, Rent and The Wedding Singer and upcoming productions of Curtains, Sunshine on Leith and Shrek.

Caitlin had a musical upbringing with her dad and has been running the school for the last six years. She graduated from Edinburgh Napier University in 2016, where she specialised in classical music and voice. She teaches piano, singing and has served as musical director and vocal coach with various local amateur musical theatre groups, having performed herself from the age of 10. She has experience with choral singing and performs professionally throughout the year in and around Edinburgh in jazz and cabaret shows.

Liam has been teaching drums at Mansfield for three years and plays regularly at local venues and as part of musical theatre productions. He also tours with his band Disposable, playing venues such as La Belle Angele and Studio 24. He also has a degree from Abertay University.
