TALENTED local pipers and drummers have been toasting success after performing in their first major championships in three years.

Preston Lodge High School Pipe Band headed to Battery Park in Gourock for the British Pipe Band Championships.

And there was success for the musicians, with their Juvenile Band placing third in the Juvenile Grade, behind Dollar Academy in first and George Watson’s College in second.

Lee Moore, pipe major, said: “Our novice band had the honour of being the first band to compete on the day and they gave a very brave performance, while the wind blew in from the Clyde, to finish 12th in the Novice B grade.

“We’ve waited a long time for this but, unfortunately, someone forgot to inform the weather gods, who gave us cold and wet conditions that were far from ideal for piping and drumming.”

The pipe band also attended Cockenzie and Port Seton Gala Day and ran a water station for the Edinburgh Marathon.
