A boxer who trains at a Musselburgh gym is hoping to pack a punch in his second fight as a professional.

Robbie Graham, a 27-year-old warehouse supervisor, is originally from Craigmillar but now lives in Gorebridge and competes under J&L Boxing Club, which runs a boxing fitness and martial arts centre on Musselburgh High Street.

He tasted victory in his first professional welterweight fight against Gary Maguire, from Castlemilk, in April at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow, winning 40-36 on points after four rounds.

Robbie will return to the Crowne Plaza Hotel next Saturday (June 11) to meet Chris Jenkinson, from Bolton, in the ring.

Robbie said: “It’s a dream come true to turn professional.

“It shows that believing and working hard, you can achieve anything in life and it should be a motivation factor for the younger generation.

“Anything is possible if you believe it.

“I continue to train out of J&L as it’s an amateur club that is going to be successful and huge in the next couple of years.

“It’s been on the map for five years and head coach Jay Tuveri plays a key role in that with his training and boxing skills.

“I feel this is the only gym out there that can improve me as a boxer and continue my chase of my dreams of winning titles.”
