NORTH Berwick is getting into the royal spirit as Platinum Jubilee-themed post box toppers have appeared thanks to the town’s knitting maestros.

Judy Lockhart-Hunter, Linda Digney and Pat Christie created the toppers in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Two of the toppers were made by Linda and Judy, and feature the Queen’s crown alongside Queen’s Guardsmen, on a base of red, white and blue.

The toppers also feature the knitted number 70, to honour the Queen’s 70 years as monarch. One topper is located on Quality Street and the other on St Baldred’s Road.

Mrs Lockhart-Hunter said: “We decided we wanted to make toppers for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee because we have really enjoyed making our previous toppers and they bring so much joy to people.

“Celebrating the Platinum Jubilee is a once-in-a-lifetime occasion; it is exciting to contribute to such a special celebration marking 70 years of service. We are thrilled that the crowns will be reused when we take the toppers down, too, as the toppers take us months to make. We keep the bases and reuse them until they wear out. The Quality Street base was newly made for the celebration and the St Baldred’s Road base has been reused three times.”

Mrs Christie created a similar topper on the small post box on Fidra Road last week.

Her design also features a crown and knitted member of the Queen’s Guard.

She said: “I love to knit. If I’m sitting, I’m knitting.

“A lot of work has gone into these toppers and I hope they are appreciated.”
