THE earth beneath us is at the heart of a new exhibition which opens in Dunbar next month.

Natalie Taylor has been investigating Dunbar’s soil during her year as North Light Arts’ artist-in-residence.

Microscopes have been used to study and photograph soil organisms from collected samples.

The artist has then gone on to create paint with the soils and use soil images as the inspiration for her work.

Also included in the exhibition, named Terra Infirma, are photographic portraits of local people who are taking on the role of the ‘Keeper of the Soils’, a ceremonial cape made by Natalie and the community and worn on special occasions to make significant soils more visible.

The exhibition, which is supported by East Lothian Council Art Services, takes place in Dunbar Town House from June 4 to 26.
