A PRESTONPANS woman who set up shop after her lockdown hobby grew into a successful business is delighted to have been nominated in the Scottish Business Awards 2022.

Hayleigh Buchanan, 32, launched HaloWax in 2021, after her hobby for wax melts and fragrance products in lockdown grew in popularity.

Hayleigh began experimenting with the business in her kitchen back in 2020.

Two years later, the former Preston Lodge High School pupil left her job as a social care worker with East Lothian Council – where she had worked for 13 years – to set up her shop on High Street.

The business opened its doors to the public at the beginning of last month.

She said: “I’m struggling to keep up with the demand but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I’m loving meeting all my customers face to face and having a good chat.”

Hayleigh sells handcrafted wax melts and candles, fragrances and cosmetic products.

She said: “When I opened the letter I couldn’t believe that HaloWax had been nominated.”

Businesses are nominated for the awards by customers.

Award organisers also carry out secret shopper-style visits and look at the businesses’ presence on social media.
