THE public recycling point at Olivebank Retail Park, Musselburgh, is no longer in use after it became the target for repeated fly-tipping.
East Lothian Council has removed the six recycling bins for glass, cans and paper, saying all these items could be recycled by residents using the kerbside collection service.
Black bags full of household waste, children’s toys, lawnmowers, vacuum cleaners, microwaves and even car parts have been dumped at the recycling point, which led to the council action.
A council spokesperson said: “Larger items were being deposited outside the bins; however, routinely it was found that the bins had been forced open and household waste placed into them, rendering the contents of the bin unsuitable for recycling.
“Unfortunately, due to misuse of the site, including repeated fly-tipping, the recycling point situated at Olivebank Retail Park is no longer available for use.”
