RECORD-BREAKING figures showing the number of East Lothian schoolchildren going into higher education have been welcomed.
East Lothian Council revealed that the number of teenagers going on to ‘positive destinations’ had reached a record high earlier this year.
A total of 96.1 per cent of pupils leaving school went on to positive destinations – above the national average of 95.5 per cent – while 5,568 young people from across East Lothian moved on to a modern apprenticeship.
Paul McLennan, East Lothian’s MSP, said: “The SNP Scottish Government sees the value in ensuring every child starts the day in the same way.
“This is why they have provided funding that ensures all P1-3 children have the best start to their day by providing free school meals. This will be extended to all primary schools within this parliamentary term.”
