A mystery man wearing blue Y-fronts has allegedly been defecating on a public walkway.
It has been claimed to the Courier that an elderly male has been doing his business on the Pencaitland Railway Path near Ormiston.
An eye-witness said: "I was out walking at roughly 7am on Sunday and came across an older man having a poop on the path.
"I will never forget his face or his blue Y-fronts!
"He also nearly lost his loo roll when he saw me, which makes me think he's a repeat offender."
The alleged offender is said to have parked his vehicle at Cousland.
The eye-witness added: "The rise in human poo along the public walkway is increasing. I know people get caught short but to do it on a path is not acceptable."
An East Lothian Council spokesperson said they had not been made aware of any such incidents but would be alerting the local authority's Countryside Rangers service.
The spokesperson added: "The Scottish Outdoor Access Code highlights the responsible behaviours that the public should adhere to at all times in the countryside.
"Ideally people should plan their trips to avoid being caught short. If this isn’t possible, then the code advises that you should take a trowel with you to bury waste.
"Paper waste or sanitary products should also be bagged and removed then binned. Doing so ensures that our wild spaces remain accessible and enjoyable for everyone who uses them.”
