I was interested to read about the discussions about potential improvements to the notorious cement works junction on the A1 near Dunbar (Courier, April 28).

My family reside at the Pinkertons and we regularly cross the junction by foot and cycle – however, it is exceedingly dangerous doing this due to the complexity of the junction and speed/volume of traffic.

Whatever solution might be considered to improve the junction, pedestrian safety must be factored into any discussions between the council, BEAR and Viridor.

For a long time, the Pinkertons have been effectively cut off for walking to Dunbar and it is essential that this is resolved for residents.

A solution such as a bridge or underpass would be ideal to offer safe access. It would also offer wider connectivity for others who wish to explore Doon Hill and the surrounding trails beyond Dunbar. Should a roundabout be an option, then a pedestrian solution similar to that used at the Spott Roundabout surely must be considered as a minimum?

I would implore all involved in discussions to take these points seriously.
