VOLUNTEERS from Tranent Wombles collected 15 bags of litter from sports pitches in the town on Sunday.

Henry Mathias (pictured above) braved the cold weather with other volunteers to collect the rubbish from in and around the Ross High School rugby and hockey pitches.

Henry said: β€œIt was a massive achievement.

Our thanks go out to all those volunteers who turned up to lend us a hand and their precious time, we really appreciate it.

"We did run out of time at the end, so we never got to complete all the hedges.”

The group, which has collected 675 bags of rubbish since January, will return to complete the litter pick at a later date.
