AN AWARD-WINNING Musselburgh pub is toasting success again after being named Pub of the Year in the Lothians for 2022 by CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale).

Nigel Finlay, owner of Staggs, also known as The Volunteer Arms, will receive a framed certificate next Wednesday from Pat Hanson, chairman of the Edinburgh & South-East Scotland branch.

Mr Hanson said: "The display of previous CAMRA awards at Stagg's is testament to the consistency and excellence of their real ale over the years.

"Out of dozens of real ale pubs in the Lothians (outside Edinburgh), Stagg's has been voted into top place again by our members and the award will be well deserved."

Mr Finlay said: "We are delighted to receive the award again. It has been a difficult couple of years for all in the industry and we are always grateful to receive recognition."

The Edinburgh & South-East Scotland branch of CAMRA covers Edinburgh, Midlothian, East Lothian, Scottish Borders and parts of West Lothian.

Staggs, on North High Street, has won numerous CAMRA awards and, in March 2020, celebrated being named Pub of the Year in the Lothians.

It won the title of best pub in Scotland and Ireland for the third time in 2018, and Pub of the Year for the UK in 1998.

Staggs has been run by the same family since 1858.
