Firefighters are currently tackling a blaze that took hold at a block of flats on North High Street in Musselburgh.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service recieved a call at 5.33pm on Saturday evening that a fire had started in the bedroom on a first floor property.

Images from the scene show three fire engines on site as well as numerous people standing outside the building, while smoke was seen exiting from one of the first floor flat.

At the fire's height four fire appliances were required on the scene.

Reports also indicated the presence of police and ambulance vehicles on the scene opposite the Ship Inn pub.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that there was one casualty, and this person was removed from the scene in an ambulance and taken to hospital.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We are currently in attendance at a fire in North High Street in Musselburgh.

"We currently have two fire appliances on scene.

"We are still working to make the scene safe."

In an updated statement a SFRS spokesperson said: "Time of call was 5.33pm.

"It was a fire on a first floor flat bedroom and there was one casualty taken to hospital."
