PLANNING permission for a new home in North Berwick has been approved by East Lothian Council, despite claims it would be “dominant”.

Plans submitted to East Lothian Council for the home at 12 Westerdunes Park detailed a significant rebuild into an architecturally modern property.

The new property will be part single-storey and part two-storey, in place of the current single-storey dwelling, and will see components clad in dark timber.

North Berwick Community Council had previously raised concerns about the plans, declaring them to be “dominant”, in particular the dark timber cladding.

Planners made no reference to the colour of the cladding but did lay down some conditions for the property’s approval.

These included the submission of external finishing materials to ensure that they were “appropriate in the interest of protecting the amenity and character of the North Berwick Conservation Area”.
