STRIKES by Jonathon Mainds and Charlie Robinson were enough for Ross High School to pick up silverware.

The school’s senior football team (S4-S6) defeated North Berwick High School 2-1 to lift the Senior East Lothian Cup.

Mark Melrose helps arrange the fixtures and supports the coaching duo of Allan Watters and Steven Clark.

He was delighted with the win at Tranent’s Foresters Park and said: “To be honest with you, it was quite comfortable for most of the game.

“We should have seen it to bed early but when you leave it at 2-0 and it gets towards the end then you do start to get a bit nervous.

“They had a penalty with 10 minutes to go, which our keeper saved, but it was more tense than it probably should have been.”

The Tranent secondary school also defeated Preston Lodge High School 2-0 en route to the final.

Mr Melrose, who teaches CDT at the school, was hopeful that the team could go from strength to strength, with members of the S3 team making the step up.
