A POPULAR county gala day will return bigger and better than ever this summer with a week of free ticketed events scheduled after a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19, as the gala committee reveals its long-awaited 2022 royal court.

Prestonpans Gala, which has been a feature of the town's calendar for decades, will return to Mary Murray Park on June 11 with a gala court including this year's queen Manja Porteus and her escort Louie Menzies.

The parade route differs slightly from previous years, going along South Grange Avenue and not North Grange Avenue.

At the centre of the day, exciting activities such as a bungee run, crazy golf and a climbing wall will be in place.

Meanwhile, youngsters will have the chance to see ponies and birds of prey.

On the stage, The Tartan Tones will perform while Radio Saltire will broadcast live from the event.

Graeme B Hutchison, gala convenor, said: "A fun filled day is expected for all age groups, why not come along and join in one of East Lothian’s bigger gala days.

"None of this would be possible without the huge amount of time and effort by the volunteer committee members.

"Finally, we thank the royal court families, sponsors, local businesses and anyone else who has contributed to help us achieve these events for our community."
