A MOTHER fox killed by speeding a motorist - which resulted in the death of her four cubs - has outraged a town, prompting its community council to advocate for tougher traffic restrictions in the area.

A mother fox was hit by a car on Links Road, near the horse field at Seton Sands, last month leaving behind four babies who subsequently died too.

The death of the animal was brought up at an April meeting of the Cockenzie and Port Seton Community Council, with attendees raising concern about the current speed limits across the two villages.

It was suggested that speed tables – mid block traffic calming devices that raise the entire wheelbase of a vehicle to reduce its traffic speed – could be installed at Alder Road, Sandy Walk and Edinburgh Road and it was decided that the community council would submit a funding application to the Area Partnership for the measures.

Additionally, community councillor Ben Morse suggested a speed watch initiative where by volunteers are trained to use speed guns could be useful.

Meanwhile, concerns were also raised about the speed limits in place on the B1348 and A198 Coast Road.
