VANDALS targeted a marquee set up for an Easter fair in Cockenzie on Monday evening, damaging tables and chairs in the process.

Cockenzie House and Gardens reported that local youths visited the marquee situated in the gardens late on Monday and destroyed the frame, tables and chairs.

A spokesperson said: “The small team at Cockenzie House and Gardens works hard to bring the community as many interesting events as we can.

“Those who created the damage should know that they have put everyone’s enjoyment in jeopardy.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of damage caused to a marquee and garden furniture at a premises on Edinburgh Road around 12.45pm on Tuesday. Enquiries are at an early stage.”

The Cockenzie House and Gardens team is now on a clean-up effort to try and reinstate everything in time for its Easter Garden Fair on Saturday.
