HUNDREDS of East Lothian school pupils are learning from home amid crippling levels of staff absence across the county related to Covid-19.

One class at Pencaitland Primary School and three classes from Wallyford Primary School spent the day working from home.

Meanwhile, Dunbar Grammar's S3 year group will return to school tomorrow following a day of remote learning today; however, the school's S1 year group will be expected to undertake studies from home tomorrow and return to school on Wednesday.

North Berwick High School's third years will work from home tomorrow and Wednesday, returning to campus on Thursday.

An East Lothian Council spokesperson said: “Our schools do all they can to continue with in-person learning but, where this isn’t possible, will move quickly to remote arrangements.

"Remote learning arrangements are currently in place at Wallyford and Pencaitland primary schools and at Dunbar Grammar, Ross High and North Berwick High schools.

“We are grateful to parents, carers and learners for their continued support in what is an undoubtedly challenging time.”

The spokesperson added that several schools have had to move classes or year groups to remote learning as a consequence of Covid-19 staff absence.

They added: "Our schools do all they can to continue with in-person learning but, where this isn’t possible, will move quickly to remote arrangements.
