A TRANENT man has been placed under supervision after he pleaded guilty to brandishing a bottle at a property in the town on New Year’s Day.

David Thomson, 39, burst into the home uninvited at Morrison Avenue and shouted and swore at the occupants.

Thomson wielded the bottle and shouted threats of violence towards the householders on January 1 this year.

Thomson, of Young Avenue, then assaulted a police officer by attempting to headbutt him as constables tried to arrest him.

He pleaded guilty to two charges at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month and was back in the dock last week for sentencing.

Sheriff Matthew Auchincloss placed Thomson under the supervision of the social work department for the next 12 months.

Thomson was also ordered to pay £200 in compensation.

Thomson admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at Morrison Avenue, Tranent, on January 1. He also pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer at his home on the same date.
