A TRANENT woman fundraising for a high-tech device to trace missing dogs in memory of her late furry friend has secured a thermal drone for lost pets in East Lothian.

Shannon Godsell, 33, of John Crescent, has been working as a self-employed beauty therapist for eight years at The Joys Semi Permanent Lashes and Brows.

The fully qualified eyelash technician and beauty therapist ran a beauty raffle offering a year’s worth of free treatments to one winner to raise money to purchase the thermal drone to search for lost dogs in East Lothian – £2,070 was raised.

The drone detects infrared energy emitted from pets and translates it into heat – thermal cameras mounted on the drone can detect the heat of a dog when flying over an area.

‘Bobbi’ the drone is named in memory of Shannon’s late mixed terrier cross best friend, who was just a month away from her 14th birthday when she passed away suddenly last July from an unexpected cancer diagnosis.

Shannon hopes to secure a dog trap to catch any lost pet spotted in the area in the future.

She added: “If your pet goes missing and you need help looking for them, whether it be from the sky or ground searchers, please give us a message and we are more than happy to help.

“The money raised is enough for what we wanted and more.

“We have enough to also buy a dog trap for here and another for Drone SAR For Lost Dogs UK.

“Once we can get a quick flying lesson, we are ready to help look for lost dogs in East Lothian.

“The drone will be named Bobbi after the runaway legend of Tranent herself.

“Thank you all so much for entering and all of your donations.

“Bobbi is missed and loved so much I can’t even describe and it means the world to know that she can now be helping from up in the sky.”
