NORTH Berwick Rowing Club members raised nearly £1,000 in support of Five In A Row – a team of North Berwick men who completed an epic 3,000-mile Atlantic rowing challenge last week.

Five In A Row – North Berwick’s Ian Baird, Duncan Hughes, Ross McKinney and Clive Rooney, and Fraser Potter from Dunkeld – completed the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge’s 3,000-mile route by rowing the Atlantic Ocean in 36 days, three hours and 33 minutes.

Twenty-four fellow rowers took to rowing machines on the green at St Andrew Blackadder Church on January 15, from 8am to 8pm, for a 12-hour relay and raised £900 in donations for Five In A Row’s chosen charity Reverse Rett.

Millie Lowe, club captain, said: “We had an incredible day and we are so grateful to the North Berwick community, who came out in force to support our fundraiser.

“We raised almost £900 in donations on the day and the JustGiving page also saw £1,500 donations added directly on the day.

“We were lucky enough to speak to the boys via video link as they were approaching the finish line and they are overwhelmed by the support from back home.

“What they have done is so special – not just the crossing itself but also the money and awareness they have raised for Reverse Rett.”
