EAST Lothian’s MSP has welcomed a grant of £50,000 to fund development of a new outdoor cycle track in North Berwick.

sportscotland recently announced the second round of projects to receive investment from its £8million Cycling Facilities Fund (CFF).

The fund supports cycling facility projects that create or improve places where people take part in sport and physical activity.

The latest CFF round has awarded 13 projects, including one in North Berwick, led by the North Berwick Community Pump Track group.

East Lothian Council was handed £50,000 to fund a project to develop a new outdoor cycling pump track in North Berwick; the total cost of the project is £115,000.

Access to the North Berwick pump track will be open to the community for a range of wheeled sports, including scootering, skateboarding and cycling.

The North Berwick Community Pump Track group started work on proposals for a track more than a year ago, saying it would be a great addition to the sport and activities which already thrive within the coastal community.

A site for the track has not yet been identified.

Paul McLennan MSP said: “This is a hugely exciting announcement for residents in North Berwick and beyond.

“All across Europe, pump tracks can be found and enjoyed, offering a safe, fun and exciting place for all members of the community to keep healthy, stay fit and, more importantly, connect with each other. I am delighted that East Lothian will now follow in the steps of our European friends.

“I look forward to seeing how the North Berwick Community Pump Track group utilises this funding from sportscotland and I am excited to see and use the finished cycle track.”
