North Berwick Golf Club has awarded £2,000 from its club community fund to four local groups.
The organisations – the Scottish Seabird Centre, North Berwick in Bloom, Dirleton Bowling Club and East Lothian Countryside Volunteers – will each receive a share of the money.
The club launched the fund in 2017 and has donated more than £30,000 to more than 30 local organisations since then.
Elaine McBride, club general manager, said: “Typically, we would allocate about £10,000 per year to local organisations or charities but, with the pandemic and how that’s impacted on the club’s finances, we’ve had to pull our purse strings in. But we’re still very, very keen that we continue with that community engagement.”
Recipients are chosen via a process that assesses and reviews the organisations which apply; a sub-committee of local community members chooses the groups to be awarded.
Elaine added: “We make sure we can help those groups that maybe haven’t had any other funding recently, as opposed to those that we know are getting funding. Ultimately, if we can help everybody then we will!
“It’s a really nice way to keep the relationship between the golf club and the local community because we bleed right into the town and we’re probably one of the biggest employers in the town, and it’s important for us to give back.”
