THE winner of this year’s North Berwick High Street Best Christmas Window Display was silversmith and jewellery designer Patricia Dudgeon Design.

The competition, organised by North Berwick Community Council, sees those shops and businesses that have sponsored the town’s Christmas lights and decorated their windows in festive fashion entered to win a special trophy.

And this year – the fourth year that the contest has been held – Patricia’s tasteful window arrangement took the prize.

Judy Lockhart-Hunter, chairperson of the community council, said: “Sadly, we didn’t get as many applicants this year as usual for the best Christmas window display, which was a shame as there are so many lovely windows along our High Street.

“The revival of the business association has been great, though, and we hope this encourages more and more businesses to take part.

“We are thrilled to announce that Patricia Dudgeon Design is this year’s winner and takes the trophy from Time & Tide, who won last year.

“Patricia Dudgeon Design has a lovely Christmassy window with all sorts to look at, including a wonderful big garland running all the way round. It is stunning.”

And Patricia said she was “quite pleased” with the win.

She explained: “It’s your window on the world, your window’s really important, something to attract your customers as they come along the high street.

“I think it makes for a more interesting high street if everybody does a little something.

“I’m quite pleased to win.

“It’s an effort to do it but I quite like doing my Christmas window, I’m always trying to think of something to do that’s not been seen before, especially when you’ve got a small window, because I haven’t got a big window.”

The community council has also worked with local art group pARTicipate NB to create a Christmas display in the telephone cabins next to the Royal Mail sorting office, which included repainting the small houses inside one of the cabins.

Judy added: “We were donated the tree in the background by Archerfield Walled Garden.

“Having the Christmas display in the cabins has hopefully helped bring some festive cheer.”
