A CHRISTMAS foodbank appeal organised by a well-known Tranent man is seeking further donations, with raffle prizes up for grabs for everyone who gets involved.

Johnnie Meechan’s Christmas Foodbank Appeal for East Lothian Foodbank is urgently seeking donations of food, toiletries and cleaning products to help local families in need.

For every item or pound donated, people will be entered into a raffle to win a variety of prizes, including autographed items from county champion boxer Josh Taylor, Edinburgh football clubs and local visitor attractions.

Any money donated will be used to buy items in bulk, all of which will be donated to the foodbank, based on Tranent’s Civic Square.

Johnnie, who is documenting his struggle with terminal NET cancer through his Johnnie’s Journey pages, said: “The event has thankfully gained some traction, which should allow a good donation to the foodbank and community groups, but it most definitely needs more help. We are hoping to support more towns this year dependent on the kind support we get from the public and businesses.”

Prizes up for grabs at the raffle include: an autographed Josh Taylor boxing glove; autographed Hearts and Hibs jerseys; Australia away kit autographed by Martin Boyle; family tickets for Hibs’ match with Livingston; family day admission at the Scottish Seabird Centre; £50 gift vouchers for Brass Buddha Tattoos, Nether Abbey Hotel, Lobster Shack, Rocketeer Restaurant and Prestoungrange Gothenburg; Football Manager 2022; gift voucher for Veermans Pets & Co; wild bird feeding kit by Animal Magic Pet Supplies; two boxes of cupcakes by cakesby_eb; various bottles of spirits; full round pass for Reboot Disc Golf at Bluebell Woods; various hair and beauty vouchers; and many more.

Items needed urgently include: shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, household cleaner, nappies, tea bags, instant coffee, toilet roll, toothpaste, pasta, pasta sauces, tinned fruit, tinned potatoes, cup-a-soups and long grain rice.
