A MAGICAL visit from Santa and Mrs Claus to North Berwick last week raised more than £1,000 for a community charity.

Bass Rock Community Group and North Berwick Beach Wheelchairs were delighted when Santa and Mrs Claus’ visit to the town last Thursday raised £1,074 for the town’s Beach Wheelchairs charity.

Liz Martin, of Bass Rock Community Group, said: “We are really grateful to everyone who came along to see Santa and Mrs Claus on a very wet night.

“This fantastic result would not have been possible without their generosity and it was such a thrill to see so many smiling children in awe of actually meeting Santa and Mrs Claus.

“We received enormous help in making all this possible from FACE (Fight Against Cancer Edinburgh), who provided and guided the sleigh, The Gospel Choir North Berwick, North Berwick Harbour Trust, East Lothian Yacht Club, Tesco supermarket, as well as volunteers from Beach Wheelchairs.”

Melanie Kay, of North Berwick Beach Wheelchairs, said: “What an amazing night we had when Santa and Mrs Claus came to town.

“It really was a special night.

“We saw an overwhelming sense of community spirit and it made me feel so proud to be part of such a great community.

“We are truly humbled by the response and the number of donations received, which was way beyond our expectations.

“Thank you again to everybody involved.”
