A COMMUNITY group which buses its members to theatre events has resumed its services following a Covid-enforced break.

The Coastal Villages Theatre Group (CVTG) takes people by coach from East Lothian to theatres in Edinburgh, Musselburgh and Pitlochry to enjoy drama, musicals, concerts, opera and ballet there.

It is restarting its activities following the pandemic and is hoping to welcome new members.

This season, the joining fee of £10 has been waived in order to encourage people back to the theatre, and the group hopes to book tickets for performances including a live screening of Tosca at The Brunton, Musselburgh; The Dresser (featuring Julian Clary and Matthew Kelly), A Murder Is Announced, and Pirates Of Penzance at King’s Theatre, Edinburgh; RSNO at the Movies: The Music of John Williams, and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall; and Anything Goes and Northern Ballet’s The Great Gatsby at Festival Theatre.

The CVTG also usually organises a late summer day-trip to a matinee performance at Pitlochry Festival Theatre.

A coach picks up at local stops, starting at North Berwick Rugby Club car park, through Dirleton, Gullane, Aberlady and Longniddry, drops at the theatre door, and collects members when the performance ends.

A spokesperson for the group said: “We have been organising buses to various theatre events for people in the East Lothian coastal area for over 20 years and have over 150 members.

“Several advantages are served by this arrangement, especially for those who don’t enjoy driving in the dark or the hassle of parking, and also those who are reluctant to attend alone can join others.”
