A NORTH Berwick businessman who supports people struggling with alcohol has been named a winner at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards for the second year in a row.

Ruari Fairbairns (pictured) was awarded Entrepreneur for Good in Scotland & Northern Ireland, for his business One Year No Beer (OYNB).

Founded in 2015, when Ruari himself decided he needed to take a break from his binge-drinking lifestyle, OYNB is a behaviour change programme for cutting down alcohol consumption.

OYNB now has more than 80,000 members worldwide.

Last year, Ruari scooped the Scotland & Northern Ireland Entrepreneur of the Year and Health and Wellbeing Entrepreneur of the Year prizes.

He said: “I am beyond delighted that both myself and OYNB have once again been recognised for its amazing work at these prestigious awards.

“The work we do supporting people and helping them to control their alcohol consumption is so important as ultimately this leads to them living better, healthier and happier lives.”

The Great British Entrepreneur Awards were held in London last month, having been hosted online last year.

The event saw 159 entrepreneurs from throughout the UK recognised for their achievements in the past year.

Francesca James, founder of the Great British Entrepreneur Awards, said: “It was fantastic to hear so many inspiring business stories after a difficult few years, and even better to have been able to invite all of our finalists to the in-person ceremony and celebrate together.

“The winners were thoroughly deserving, overcoming some stiff competition from their fellow finalists, and we look forward to welcoming them into our alumni community and seeing what they do next.”
