A COUNTY man who was jailed last month and placed on the sex offenders’ register has had his sentence extended after admitting assaulting a Tesco employee.

Kieran McVie, also known as Findlay, was sent to prison for 16 months and will be on licence for two years after he admitted threatening to drag a schoolgirl into bushes and slit her throat.

McVie, 27, also shouted sexual comments to a second young victim and scared a nine-year-old girl into believing he was about to expose himself to her.

He was jailed at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month and a sheriff ordered his name to be added to the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.

McVie returned to the dock at the Capital court last Tuesday, where Sheriff Alison Stirling extended his time in prison by six months.

The offender had previously admitted assaulting Usman Ahsan by pushing him on the body at the Tesco supermarket in Musselburgh on May 22.

He also pleaded guilty to being found in the curtilage of a property at the Linkfield Road in Musselburgh, with the inference he intended to commit a theft there, the following day.

Sheriff Stirling was told that McVie was currently serving the 16-month jail term and decided to make the new six-month sentence consecutive.

A week earlier, the court had heard that McVie had approached the two teenage girls as they made their way to school at Lewisvale Park in Musselburgh at about 9am on June 17.

Prosecutor Gavin Whyte said that McVie approached them and told the pair he worked at a local sexual health clinic and they should visit the premises to learn sex positions.

Mr Whyte said that McVie threatened the 17-year-old by stating he would “drag her into the bushes” and claimed he had a knife and would “slit her throat”.

McVie also asked the 14-year-old girl “are you up for it?” and made references to his genitalia.

The court heard that McVie then confronted the nine-year-old girl at about 4pm the following day, forcing her to run away as she believed he was about to pull his shorts down.

McVie was arrested at about 10pm that evening following several calls of concern to the police about his behaviour.
