CASES of coronavirus in East Lothian are on the increase, according to the latest data from Public Health Scotland.

East Lothian recorded 469 cases of Covid-19 between November 28 and December 4, producing a seven-day positive rate per 100,000 people of 434.7.

The previous week (November 21 to 27), 423 cases were recorded producing a seven-day positive rate per 100,000 people of 392.

East Lothian has the fourth highest Covid rate in Scotland, behind East Ayrshire, Falkirk and East Dunbartonshire.

Neighbouring City of Edinburgh (344) and Midlothian Council (353.2) both have seven-day rates per 100,000 people significantly lower than East Lothian’s.

In the county, Dunbar West recorded the most cases in the last seven days (43), giving it a seven-day rate of 785.4.

Meanwhile, the vast majority of East Lothian residents have now received both doses of a coronavirus vaccine.

83,295 people over the age of 18 have received their first dose of a coronavirus vaccine.

This equals 96.9 per cent of the population.

A total of 80,350 people have received their second dose, or 93.5 per cent of the population.

And 37,990 residents or 44.2 per cent have received a third dose or booster coronavirus vaccine.
