NORTH Berwick Harbour’s barometer has been restored by local craftsman David Wellwood, thanks to funding by the North Berwick Trust and a donation from R Leslie.
The barometer – installed in the gable of the old granary building by East Lothian Yacht Club’s Commodore Butterworth in about 1950 – had seen its wooden housing and surrounding stonework in need of urgent repair.
Hugh MacKenzie, a trustee of North Berwick Harbour Trust, said: “It is hoped that the restored barometer will be an asset to fishermen, sailors and tourists alike, in addition to being a further attraction at the historic North Berwick Harbour.”
The unveiling of the barometer, which cost about £5,500 to restore is scheduled for this Saturday at 3pm.
