SEASONED athletes, casual runners and families in North Berwick are all being invited to take part in a charity run this Christmas – dressed as Santa!

The whistle will blow for attendees to get running at the town’s annual Santa Beach Run on December 19 at 10am.

The event boasts a 2k, 5k and 10k run along the coastline, open to runners of all abilities – but participants should dress festively.

Organised by Cath Brookes and Saartje Drijver and hosted by East Lothian Triathlon, the event will raise funds for Movement On The Ground, an organisation that supports refugees.

All three races will start on the beach near Elcho Green and will stretch along the beach to the west of North Berwick and back, which may involve some wet feet and rocky routes, so appropriate shoes and clothes are advised.

The 2k race is open to all ages, though children under seven who take part must be accompanied by an adult.

The 5k run is open to anyone over the age of 13, and the 10k is open to those over 17.

Entry for children up to the age of 18 is £7; for adults it is £12 – members of scottishathletics will be offered a £2 discount.

The event organisers have followed the scottishathletics guidance to take account of the impact of Covid-19.
