COFFEE shop giants Starbucks have confirmed they are coming to East Lothian.

The global chain had been keeping tight-lipped about the prospects of opening on the western edge of Haddington.

However, this evening (Monday), they revealed the countdown was on to them opening their first branch in the county.

A Starbucks spokeswoman said: “We look forward to opening our doors to customers in Haddington in the near future and will be in touch once we have more specific plans to share.”

Proposals for a coffee shop with outdoor seating area to the east of the Haddington Retail Park gained approval from East Lothian Council in April 2019.

Construction work on the site began in recent weeks, with a metal frame now in place.

Starbucks revealed to the Courier they were looking forward to opening the new branch after an advert for a manager for the coffee shop was posted online.

Building work for a petrol filling station, with a shop inside, is also underway immediately to the west of the retail park.

The retail park is already home to Aldi, Home Bargains, The Food Warehouse and a drive-thru Costa Coffee.
