There will be no torchlight parade or official switch-on ceremony for Musselburgh’s Christmas lights this year.

Irene Tait, chairperson of Musselburgh & Inveresk Community Council, said this was due to a hold-up with delivery of materials from abroad to repair some of the lights.

She said: “We are currently awaiting delivery of materials to repair some of the lights, which have been held up in transit.

“As we don’t know when the lights will arrive, but hope this will be some time in December, we will arrange to have the Christmas lights switched on on a date as yet to be confirmed.”

She added: “This is not what we had hoped for and we are sorry to disappoint the community.

“Hopefully, next year we can once again hold our amazing Christmas event.”

The torchlight parade through the town, which is followed by the switch-on, was last held in 2019.

The events did not go ahead last year due to Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.
