TRANENT residents have celebrated the success of their first ever scarecrow trail in the town, as organisers aim to make the Hallowe’en event an annual staple.

Evelyn Stevenson, an NHS worker at East Lothian Community Hospital, teamed up with friend Carolyn Clark to organise the community event, which showcased handmade spooky scarecrows throughout the town during Hallowe’en.

Judging by the pair took place on October 28 and a selection of prizes were handed out for the best house scarecrow and best shop window.

The overall business winner was Kingslaw Garage, which had spooky music playing alongside numerous scarecrows on tractors.

The business was awarded a £20 Veermans Pets voucher and a trophy. A home on Coalgate Avenue was the winner of the house scarecrow, with the owner awarded a £20 Ravelston House Hotel voucher alongside a trophy.

Two further winners, from Myles Farm and Lammermoor Terrace, were presented with a £10 Asda voucher each.

The scarecrow trail saw 20 homes and businesses take part, with Evelyn and Carolyn hoping it will become a regular event in the town.
